THE MUSICIANS:

Robin Johnston, Lead Guitar: Robin started playing guitar at the tender age of 9 and at 14 joined "The Wild Ones", a popular surf band in the South Bay area that played all the major surf clubs including The Grand and The Revelaire. They went on to become one of the house bands at The Hullabaloo Club in Hollywood, a gig they had for over 2 years. Robin has never stopped playing professionally, performing virtually every kind of music over the past 40 years. He fronted his own country band, "The Golden State Cowboys" for 10 years. The newest member of Sound Waves, he also plays guitar in a 20 piece jazz orchestra.
John Metcalf, Bass Guitar: John originally started as a drummer after being influenced by Dickie Dodd of “Eddie and the Showmen” and “Standells” fame. Prior to joining the Army in 1967, John played in surf and rock bands. During his tour in the Army, John became interested in the bass guitar, while playing in pick-up bands at enlisted men’s clubs. The bass became his first love after leaving the service. Recently retired in 2005, from the Los Angeles Police Department as a Detective Supervisor, John has been performing professionally in surf, rock and country bands for the past 40 years.
Bobby "K" Drums: This is Bobby’s first venture into the world of surf music. Bobby’s drumming “wowed” not only the audience but the great surf guitarist Eddie Bertrand, of the Belairs and Eddie and the Showmen, during recent SoundWaves' performances with Eddie at the Huntington Beach Surf Museum. For the past 10 years Bobby was the drummer for the country band “the Golden State Cowboys.”
Joe Romero – Rhythm Guitar: Joe was one of the founding members of the Wild Ones Surf Band and played lead guitar to Robin’s rhythm. They played with many stars of the past, including the Righteous Brothers, Anthony and Cleo (who later became Sonny and Cher), Eddie and the Showmen, Kathy Marshall (Queen of the Surf Guitar), Dick and Dee Dee, Round Robin and many others during the Surf Music Era. The past 35 years Joe has been a Fireman but never lost the urge to play the guitar. When the opportunity came to play again Joe was ready to plug in the reverb and hasn’t looked back.
Doug Forbes Doug Forbes – Keyboards and 2nd Rhythm Guitar: Doug is professor of Computer Science, Electronics and Music Technology at College of the Canyons and has been teaching for 24 years. He started playing in bands in 1963 and has played Surf,Psych,Prog,Punk,Disco,Techno,Noise,Country,Rock but no Opera.
